Instructional Delivery

“The goal of education is not to increase the amount of knowledge but to create possibilities for the child to invent and discover, to create men who are capable of doing new things.” –Jean Piaget

The standard of instructional delivery exists to ensure that teachers have an engaging, multi-faceted approach to their teaching style. Teachers who have mastered this standard will be able to include multiple activities within their lessons as well as engage and retain student interest and participation for their lessons. These teachers will also utilize technology to make their lessons relevant and interesting.

In my classroom I use a variety of delivery methods in order to fully capture my students’ attention and allow them to fully express their potential. I use both whole and small group instruction, as well as take time out for individual instruction. I also encourage students to use laptops and technology in order to research information as well as create projects. Below, students are using their laptops to complete an assignment in class.

Within my lessons I provide plenty of checkpoints and tools to ensure student understanding. Study guides, with directed questions towards plot, character, and themes have been a tool which I have utilized to ensure that every student has a handy reference to the novel material. Pictured below is an example of a study guide with questions pertaining to both comprehension and analysis of the novel.

Study guides provide an easy way to check comprehension as well as ensure student engagement.

During my student teaching I tried to teach in small groups as much as possible, in order to ensure that each student was receiving individualized attention. This helped to ensure that all students were understanding the material, especially those students who might have struggled with the material. The video below shows me working with a small group of students on an assignment in which they were told to write a cover letter.
