“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.”–Plutarch

My name is Kayleigh Joy Calhoun. I am a native of Roanoke, Virginia, where I attended William Byrd High School. I attended Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia for my undergraduate education. I graduated in 2011 and achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in both English and History. In 2015 I enrolled in the Masters of Art in Teaching program at Hollins University. Upon graduation I will be endorsed to teach Secondary English.

I hope to help all my students achieve their full potential, taking into account that each student has different abilities and strengths. I believe that each student, when given the right tools, can be a competitive, effective learner. I hope to engage my students and create a genuine interest in the subject material.

For more information on my goals, please read my Philosophy of Teaching.
